AI Marketing & Search Visibility

Your buyers now search in two places: Google and AI answer engines (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Overviews). Most Australian SMBs are invisible in both. We build the one engine, combining owned content with earned authority, that fixes both at once.

The problem

The pattern we keep seeing.

Most Australian SMBs, even excellent ones with real clients and serious work, start at zero. Domain Rating 0 on Google. No citations in AI engines. Their buyers find competitors right now, every day. The gap compounds every month they don't move.

  • Domain Rating 0 is the default.

AU competitors in most categories sit at 30–60+. The gap only closes with consistent content and earned citations.

  • Zero content means zero rankings, zero citations.

Not page one. Not page ten. Nowhere on Google and absent from every AI answer. Your buyers find competitors instead.

  • The gap compounds every month.

Competitors pull ahead every month they publish and earn authority. Rankings get harder to take as they entrench. The right time to start is now.

What it is

What is Marketing & Search Visibility?

One content + citation engine that gets you found by Google and cited by AI, so your business shows up in both surfaces where buyers now search, and the work compounds every month.

Your buyers now search in two places: Google and AI answer engines (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Overviews). Most Australian SMBs are invisible in both. We build the one engine, combining owned content with earned authority, that fixes both at once.

Edison AI is an Australian boutique consultancy that builds combined SEO + GEO engines for SMBs. Our work covers two surfaces simultaneously. Google rankings and AI answer-engine citations (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Overviews). Engagements run 6–10 weeks for the build, then optional ongoing monthly retainers. Outputs include a visibility baseline audit, restructured site architecture optimised for citation extractability, an AI-assisted content workflow in your brand voice, a monthly citation-tracking dashboard, and a measurement layer linking citations to discovery calls. We work with B2B businesses where one new client is worth $10,000 or more.

Why this matters now

The shifts you can't postpone.

Three reasons SEO and GEO have to be built together now, not sequentially.

  • 01

Your buyers search in two places.

Google still owns most buyer intent. AI answer engines have quietly become a second search surface. Growing every month, especially for B2B services.

  • 02

Content that earns Google rankings also feeds AI citation indexes.

One engine, two return paths. Authority earned through editorial coverage lifts both simultaneously, and only one engine has to be built.

  • 03

Boards and buyers are catching up to the question.

'Are we showing up in ChatGPT yet?' is now a board-level question. The right answer is a citation tracking dashboard, not a slide.

By business pattern

Where this shows up.

  • Professional services

    Pattern

    Law, accounting, advisory, consulting.

    Why it compounds

High-value queries, long buyer research cycles, AI engines now used to shortlist firms before any human contact.

    Where AI sits

Citations win recommendations; well-structured FAQ and direct-answer content carry the same work into both Google and AI Answers.

  • B2B SaaS

    Pattern

Boutique B2B SaaS where one new customer is $10k+ ARR.

    Why it compounds

Buyers ask AI 'best [category] tool'. You need to be in the answer, not the alternatives.

    Where AI sits

Schema-marked comparison content + entity grounding so your product appears in every shortlist AI generates.

  • Specialist agencies

    Pattern

    Creative, digital, AI consultancies themselves.

    Why it compounds

Direct-route discovery through AI is now a major channel. Buyers ask AI to compare agencies before any pitch.

    Where AI sits

Editorial citations from publications buyers read, plus direct-answer content positioning the agency for category queries.

  • Industrial / wholesale

    Pattern

Specifier-led buying. Engineers and specifiers ask AI before contacting suppliers.

    Why it compounds

AI tools now answer 'best brand for X application' with confidence; absence costs deals you never knew were happening.

    Where AI sits

Product schema, application content, specifier-targeted long-form pages indexed by AI engines.

  • Health and allied clinics

    Pattern

Referral-driven growth where patients and GPs alike now ask AI for recommendations.

    Why it compounds

Trust-led category; citations from health publications and structured clinical content compound for years.

    Where AI sits

Condition-specific direct-answer content + practitioner credentials grounded in extractable schema.

  • Education & training

    Pattern

Parents, students and corporate L&D buyers all use AI to shortlist.

    Why it compounds

Long buying cycles, multiple decision-makers, AI consulted at every step of the funnel.

    Where AI sits

Course schema, outcomes content, named-cohort case study pages structured for citation.

How we work

The engagement.

  1. Step 01

    Foundation

Weeks 1–4: keyword universe mapped. Site architecture audited and fixed. First purpose-built pages live. You start showing up where you weren't before.

  2. Step 02

    Scale

Months 2–6: content coverage expands across your full category. Editorial citations build authority with both Google and AI tools. Measure which pages drive actual discovery calls.

  3. Step 03

    Compound

Months 6+: organic becomes a reliable source of qualified discovery calls. AI engines deepen presence. Channel grows without proportional increase in spend.

Tools we reach for

We pick tools by fit, not hype.

The right tools for your business depend on your stack, data sensitivity and team. These are the ones we most often reach for in this kind of engagement.

Outcomes

What changes.

  • $0

Ad spend per qualified discovery call.

Once the engine is live, qualified buyers find you through search and AI, without paid ads, without outbound, without ongoing cost per visit.

  • 5

    AI engines tracked monthly.

ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews. You see your share-of-voice climb. Numbers, not feelings.

  • Compounding returns from month 6.

Each new page and citation makes the next one easier. The channel grows without proportional ongoing spend. The pay-back curve bends sharply in your favour by month 9.

Best fit

Who this works for.

This is for you if…

  • One new client is worth $10,000 or more to your business
  • You want traffic you own, not rented from Google Ads that stops when the budget stops
  • You're prepared to commit 6–12 months for returns that compound for years
  • Your buyers research in Google AND AI engines (they do, even if you can't see it)
  • You'd rather work with a small, opinionated Australian team than a global agency

Not the right fit yet if…

  • You need leads this quarter (run paid alongside; this is the long compounding channel)
  • One client is worth under $5,000. The maths don't compound
  • You're not prepared to commit to monthly content and citation work
  • You expect rankings inside 6 weeks. That's not how either surface works
Comparison

How this compares.

Six common alternatives. Only one builds for both surfaces simultaneously.

  • Traditional SEO agency

    Gives
    Long-standing playbook
    Falls short
Built for blue links, not AI answer engines
    Edison difference
We rebuild content for both surfaces simultaneously
  • Hire an AI content freelancer

    Gives
    Cheap, fast
    Falls short
Brand drift, generic AI slop, zero citations
    Edison difference
Strategy + workflow + voice + citation outreach
  • ChatGPT-only content production

    Gives
    Free
    Falls short
Off-brand drift, content saturation, no citations
    Edison difference
House style enforced, editorial citation strategy attached
  • Big agency 'GEO practice'

    Gives
    Brand-credible
    Falls short
    Six figures, slow, often theoretical
    Edison difference
    Boutique, 6–10 weeks, measurable, AU-built
  • Other AU boutiques (Hourglass AI, etc.)

    Gives
    Comparable framing
    Falls short
Less integration with implementation and dashboards
    Edison difference
Edison plugs into your other AI systems and reporting
  • Wait for SEO to 'come back'

    Gives
    'No regret'
    Falls short
Behaviour has changed, every month is a compounding gap
    Edison difference
Action this quarter while most competitors haven't moved
  • Edison AI

Operator-grade, founder-led, fixed quote. Built around your real stack and workflows , not a binder, a brochure, or a six-figure off-the-shelf programme.

Objections

What buyers ask first.

  • Isn't this just SEO with a new name?

No. SEO ranks you for blue links on Google. GEO gets you cited in AI answers. The mechanics, the content structure and the success metrics are different. But the same engine powers both. Which is why we build them together, not separately.

  • Our SEO agency is already doing this.

Maybe. Most aren't yet. Run our visibility baseline ($2,500, 5 business days). You'll see exactly where you sit in both surfaces. If your agency is genuinely doing both well, keep them. If they're rankings-only, you have a gap.

  • Will AI content sound like AI?

Not if it's built right. Brand voice codification + review protocol catches drift before publishing. You'll recognise your own voice, and so will your readers.

  • How do we measure this is working?

Citation tracking dashboard. Monthly. Across all 5 AI engines plus Google. Numbers, not feelings. Your share-of-voice over time, named queries, named citations.

FAQ

Common questions.

  • What's the difference between SEO and GEO?

SEO ranks you on Google. GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) gets you cited by AI engines. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews. Different mechanics, different content structure, different success metrics. But the same engine powers both, which is why we don't sell them as separate services.

  • How long before we see results?

First signs appear in months 2–3 (pages indexed, early rankings, initial citations). Meaningful traffic and discovery calls follow in months 4–6. The compounding phase, where the channel becomes predictable and cost-per-acquisition drops. Typically arrives by months 9–12.

  • Do we have to write the content ourselves?

No. We develop the strategy, produce the content in your voice and manage publishing. You provide context. About your business, your clients, your distinctive perspective. We provide everything else.

  • We already have a blog. Does that help?

It depends. If your existing content targets real buyer search queries, we build on it. If it's news or company announcements, it does little for rankings or citations, and we'll be direct about that. The visibility baseline tells you which is which.

  • What AI engines do you track?

ChatGPT (free + Plus + Enterprise), Claude (free + Pro), Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews. We add others as they reach Australian traffic relevance.

  • What if Google's algorithm changes?

The work is built on durable principles. Buyer intent, content quality, editorial citations, structural extractability. Algorithm shifts move rankings short-term; the engine compensates by feeding off both surfaces. If Google demotes thin content (as it has repeatedly), our work benefits.

  • Is this right for every business?

No. SEO + GEO is a long game suited to businesses where one new client is worth $10k+ and where the channel can compound for years. It's not the right move if you need leads next month, if your AOV is under $5k, or if you're not prepared to commit 6–12 months of content and citation work.

  • What's the investment range for SEO + GEO services in Australia?

Visibility baseline audit: $2,500 plus GST (fixed-fee, 5 business days). Foundation build (Phase 1): $25,000–$48,000 plus GST. Ongoing monthly retainer (Phases 2–3): $4,000–$12,000 per month depending on content cadence and editorial outreach intensity.
